About
In this post, I will document my monthly progress with this website, like how many views I am getting what kind of changes I made, which and how many new posts I uploaded, and what kind of decisions I made while trying to grow this website.
I am doing this for all of you who are trying to make a website or are just thinking about making one and do not know where to start or how to go on.
First month:
DECEMBER 2020
I just got an idea to make a website in which I will review different items and try to make passive income by advertising them to the bigger public on the internet. I didn't have any experience what so ever with building or even leading my own website. I watched some tutorials and read some articles on that topic and come to my first big decision. I had to choose between two websites building programs WordPress and Wix. In the end, I chose Wix because to me it was easier to understand basic functions and I found it easier to personalize and build its layout with drag and drop technic. After some time I got an idea of what kind of content I will add to my site and its layout.
I started with a premade website template to understand different elements and their functions. After that, I started building my own website on its layout so I had a little bit less work to do. I added six different pages HOME, OFFICE, GAMING, Q and A, CONTACTS, and Privacy Policy. Five of them were visible on the page menu except for Privacy Policy which link I added in the footer of the page, which is visible from every page. I wrote some text to put on each page and I made some artwork to put on them to spice up the looks. That month I started to work on my Q and A page which will be the main page from which I am hoping to drive visitors to my site and other pages. I added five posts in which I tried to answere some of the more popular and searched questions I found online. To find those questions I went to AnswerThePublic and searched the topic I would like to talk about in my posts. Finding the perfect photos to add to my website was pretty easy because Wix offers a lot of free media you can add. I also added content to the Privacy policy and download a plugin that translates your website into other languages like Slovenian in my example.
That month I added my first five posts:
That month I didn't get any generic clicks from google and most of the views I got were from me and my friends when we check that everything was working as it should.
Second month:
JANUARY 2021
This month I didn't have any less work than the month before. I finally bought a domain name and paid for the hosting for one year. I have chosen the Wix Premium plan which suited me the best for my needs. With that my website EPISetup was finally live and ready for the world to see it. I knew those first months I shouldn't expect any major but I still hope for the miracle that will probably not happen. I went on with my original plan. Now that my website was live I signed up for all European Amazon Associates programs there were and I signed up for UK's and US's one too. Than I set up for One Link. Amazon associates program will be my only way of getting revenue out of my website for now. I updated my Privacy Policy with Amazon's needs.
I added four new posts:
This month I also optimized SEO for my HOME page which led me to a complete change of my page layout and its content. I added an option for users to send me direct messages to my mail through my CONTACTS page and I created my site's Instagram account which link I added to the footer of the site and to my CONTACTS page. The cookie banner was also added to my site and I pasted all the meta descriptions from webmaster tools like Google webmaster and others. I started to paste photos of different items related to my website to my Instagram almost daily. If you are wondering why I created an Instagram profile it was because I hoped to drive some traffic to my site that way and I recommend you to do the same because in the first months it is easier for people to find you on Instagram and other social media then to find you from searces on google. I also think that actually worked because I still didn't get any clicks from search engines but I got around 20 new visitors on my site and 38 clicks on amazon links I provided.
Third month:
FEBBRUARY 2021
At first, everything started out smoothly, but soon I ran into the first big problem I had to solve. When I was working on SEO optimizing my other pages (OFFICE, GAMING, Q and A, CONTACTS, and Privacy-Policy) I quickly realized that the Wix Blog element usually loaded 2 or more seconds after the Title of the page and the text underneath it. This impacted my SEO score negatively so I tried to fix it. I spend a lot of hours trying to find the reason for slow loading, but I couldn't find any. I contacted Wix support on the Wix community forum and their employee that reviewed my question said that he couldn't find any problem. Then I got an Idea. Because of the slow load time of posts I was scared that some potential readers would just think that there is no content on my website and would just leave it. So I created a new page with posts for (GAMING, OFFICE, and Q and A), and on the old page, I added a little introduction on what a reader can read on my blog posts. At the bottom, I added some photos and a button that will take the user to the page with my articles. With that, I achieved that whenever a reader will click on a button he will have a feeling that something will have to load, and he would wait for it. And in the meantime, the posts will probably load. This also helped with interaction on my website.
I added three new posts:
I also played a bit with the overall looks of my website and shared quite a lot of new posts on my Instagram profile. This month I had 11 users and 29 sessions.
Fourth month:
MARCH 2021
I took a bit of a break from my website because I had a lot to do for my study. That month I had 15 users and 51 sessions what really surprised me. My Instagram was doing pretty well too. I had around 50 followers and 60 - 80 views per post.
